Tammy VerCauteren is the Executive Director of the Bird Conservancy. A Michigan native, Tammy earned a bachelor’s degree in wildlife management from Michigan State University and a master’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she studied Sandhill Cranes. She began working for Bird Conservancy of the Rockies (then Colorado Bird Observatory) in 1999, first as a specialist in GIS (Geographic Information System) and landowner outreach for the Prairie Partners program as the program’s coordinator and outreach director. She has served as executive director of the Bird Conservancy since 2008.

Tammy will begin her talk with an overview of Bird Conservancy of the Rockies,discussing the work the organization does and the niche it fills compared to American Bird Conservancy and Audubon. She will do a deep sweep to grasslands and their importance as an ecosystem and to birds. She’ll explain what the Central Grasslands Roadmap is, why she started it, and its path for the future. Then she’ll dive into the future of Colorado grasslands and what people can do to help protect birds and grasslands.
